COMMINGLED RECYCLING COMING TO EL MIRAGE IN SEPTEMBER 2011
In our ongoing effort to protect the environment and increase the volume of trash diverted from landfills, the City of El Mirage and Parks & Sons are proud announce the introduction of the curbside recycling program in El Mirage beginning September 1, 2011.
The new curbside program will accept papers, plastics, glass, aluminum, steel, tin, cans, and cardboard, which amounts to over 75% of household waste! This is a single-stream recycling program, meaning that all recyclable items are placed into the recycling container together—there is no need to sort or separate them before placing in your new blue recycle bin(s).

COLLECTION BIN: In addition to your existing 96-gallon green or black barrel used for refuse, a 96-gallon blue barrel will be delivered for commingled recyclables. The blue recycling barrels will be delivered between August 1 and August 30. Do not set the blue barrel out for collection until the night before the first recycling day as it will not be serviced until Thursday, September 1, 2011.
COLLECTION DAYS: Collection days will remain the same; however, trash will be collected on MONDAYS only, and recycling will now be collected every week on THURSDAY. You will need to set your green or black trash barrel out for Monday collection, and the blue recycling barrel out for Thursday collection. The first commingled recycling collection in your blue barrel will be on Thursday, September 1, 2011. As a reminder, all trash and recycling will need to be placed out at the curb no later than 5:30 am on the day of collection. Trash and recyclables will need to be contained in your barrel (items not placed in your barrels will NOT be collected).

Due to the Labor Day holiday observed, Monday, September 5,
trash will be collected Tuesday, September 6, and
recycle will be collected Friday, September 9 this week.
RECYCLABLES: Following is a list of accepted recyclable materials included in the recycling collection.
Non-recyclable materials: Following is a list of materials that should NOT be included with the recycling collection.
CONVENIENCE: In this state-of-the-art program, you
do not need to sort or separate your recyclables from one another. This
is a single-stream recycling program, meaning that all recyclable items
are placed into the bin together (e.g. glass can be mixed with plastic,
paper mixed with aluminum cans, etc.).
Please review the documents at the top of this page for more information on the changes being made and materials collected in the recycling program.
